He misses Sahira more than the Sahara misses rain- part 10

Apologies for this being so late. I  hope you all like it.

Greg was still stood outside Devon's house, only now it was a dark and dingy place, the windows and door were all boarded up. the pretty flowers had all died, their rotting remains sat amongst the weeds that grew in the window boxes. Greg's scarf flapped gently in the cold winter breeze. All around him were Christmas trees, giant Santa's and merry people. This was his first Christmas outside for eleven years now. He checked no one was looking, before crossing the road and walking up to the front door. Giving the plywood a quick kick by the hinge, it splintered and he clambered in. The house was freezing, it was colder than outside.
Greg had a quick glance inside the living room. The furniture and all of Devon's possessions had been left here to quietly disintegrate. The curtains hung limply from the rail, they were no longer white, but a moldy green speckled with holes from the moths.

the kitchen was just the same, plates and cups still sat in the sink, ready to be washed up. A dirty dishcloth and some scrubs were still on the floor next to the washing machine, which coincidentally still had clean clothes to be hung out, except they had grew to be one big blob of mould and dust. He walked up the stairs, running his hand along the banister, as he did, little flakes of dust dropped down. he stepped up onto the upstairs landing.

Devon's bedroom door was closed, but a warm light pierced under the door. Greg moved over and gently pushed it open. The room looked like it had when Greg had last been there. Opulent purple drapes were pulled by the window, and a little chink in them showed an expanse of snowy garden. A delectable creamy carpet, with dark mahogany furniture decorated the room, which had the sweet aroma of apple. And in the middle was a large double bed, with hot pink and baby blue pillows and duvet. And Devon was sat atop it, in a crimson red set of pajamas. His long black hair in a ponytail trailing down the pillow behind him.

He looked like he was about to cry. He kneeled up on the bed, as Greg slowly came over to him. But Greg was different. His usually sculptured face was speckled with browny grey stubble, his eyes were dead, and a large scar went across his left cheek, all the way up to his eye.

"Whats happened to you?" Devon asked, as they embraced.

"I didn't make too many friends inside" Greg replied sadly. "One of the bastards stabbed me on Christmas eve a few years back.
Devon traced his perfect finger over the scar. "I could have fixed that properly for you, it would never have been seen"

"But you're not here" Greg told him.
Devon looked down at the floor, his face torn with emotion.
Greg gently placed his hand under Devon's chin and pushed up slightly, so he could look into his eyes. Devon's usually sparkling Emerald eyes were now dull and forlorn, years of  anguish and waiting for Greg in this room had taken their toll.
"But at least now we can be together" Greg said, smiling as he tucked a few strands of stray hairs behind Devon's ear.
Devon gave an excited giggle, and lead Greg over to the bed.

Yana jerked awake, to find the tv blaring out the news at her. She looked around her surroundings, her husband and young daughter were laid out on the couch asleep. The movie they were watching must have finished. She gave a stretch out, feeling the ligaments in her spine stretch and relax.

"And in other news" the female newsreader read. "The body of Murdering Doctor Greg Douglas was found today"
Yana sat up and stared at the screen. There facing her was a mugshot of Greg, taken from when he was first sentenced.
"Mr Douglas, who had been sentenced for 20 years minimum for the murder of Johnny Brown, had recently escaped from the Southampton correctional facility, was found to have hung himself in the victims house, namely in his bedroom, after taking a large dose of sedatives. There has never been a clear explanation for the murder of Mr Brown, who died the day after his partner passed away. We shall have more on this story as it breaks"

Yana felt a cold shiver cross her, as a single tear rolled down her cheek.
