Plovdiv Part 2
Plovdiv is a magical place, where old and new seemingly collide in harmony! With regards to the city's Roman remains, you cannot miss them!
The forum is at the end of the the main street, just down from the Roman Stadium. While it's not fully accessible, Its a great place to look over while you enjoy and ice cream!
The ancient stadium is only a minutes walk away. It looks like there's not much, but it extends under the street more than you realise. There's a short video they show you there, which gives you a brief history. Particularly in the summer months, its a cool place to spend some time in the middle of the day.
One of the beautifully carved seat under the seatsJust a little way from the stadium, you have the Roman theatre. You can tell that much of Plovdiv hasn't changed in the two thousand years, the Roman city seems to have kept its main road through, leading you from one site to the next. Unfortunately the Theatre was closed when I was there, as they were preparing for a concert, but imagine how awesome it would be to listing to live music which in such a impressive setting.
And last but not least, make sure you check out the Archaeological Museum. Its got some incredible artefacts, and really shows you how wealthy and prosperous the ancient city was.
Don't we all just love a bird mosaic?
Unfortunately, that was my last stop in Plovdiv, I had to fly home in three days and wanted to spend some time in Sofia. But it's a city that I will return to again, I'm sure they will discover more of Roman Plovdiv's mystery's under its streets!
