Ciao Milano! Part Quattro

And just like that, it was our final day in Milan. How on earth did that happen so quickly? I can never understand why. You seem to spend so long waiting for the time to explore, and then it feels likes its over in minutes! Perhaps I should just stay away forever, and then the time to return home will never come!

We headed over to visit the Sforza's Castle, a beautiful brick castle which sits in the city centre. We only got castle tickets, and you're free to roam about as you wish. There's even a couple of restored sections of the walls facades, so you get an idea of just what the castle looked like in it's prime

Keep an eye out for friendly guides! They'll play with you in exchange for head scratches!

I also have a question for you, when did we stop building triumphant arches? Through periods of history, we built them to commemorate victories and notable events, but it seems over time, our expression has reduced. We went from a triumphant arch, to an obelisk, and now you're lucky if there's even a plaque to commemorate an event. Why did this stop, and more importantly, can we start doing it again?
Milan has the most fantastic arch, it's similar to the Arc di Triomphe in Paris, in that it's striking, beautifully detailed and in its own space, so you can view it from any direction. It's called the Porta Sempione, and occupies a site that previously had a Roman archway. The area around it is rather nice too, with plenty of places to eat, drink and explore.
We then headed back across into the very centre, finding this lovely medieval archway, before grabbing some dinner and heading back to where we were staying to start to pack.
And here it is, the last picture I took in Milan, not far from where we were staying. A lovely boulevard, with tram lines, heading off out the city. We were then up early for our flight back home.
I will say though, if you're wanting a weekend break away, Milan needs to be top of your list. Getting from Malensa airport into the centre by train was super easy, it was so easy to explore the city, and there is a lot to do there. Would really recommend it, and I would love to return again soon to finish off the things we didnt get to see!
