Tarragona Part Four

The jewel in Tarragona's crown as one of the must visit destinations has to be it's aqueduct. Known as the Les Ferreres Aqueduct (Although sometimes it's also called the Pont del Diable, the two names seem interchangeable) I walked there from Tarragona, passing the university and the area known as Sant Pere I Sant Pau, and then following a path that led under the motorway and through the parkland. If you're driving, there's a couple of car parks nearby, and busses to nearby areas, but all of which still require a fair walk.

The aqueduct is in great condition, and the stone's shine in the sunlight. When I visited, there was nobody there, and a only a Spanish couple arriving as I left. You can walk all around it, and then back across the top in the old water channel.

Monuments like this really show just how well the Romans engineered their projects. For all intents and purposes, 2000 years on and it's here nearly as good a the day it was built. It's interesting to think how much of what we build today will still be complete in 2000 years time! Anyway, enjoy visiting the aqueduct, it's a truly amazing thing to experience!

You can just see it through the trees!

Make it a priority to visit! It's situated in a large park, great for walking and cycling, and is full of ruined houses, monuments and art. Spend some time here exploring them all!

Again, word of warning, make sure you take water with you and something for shade. It might be cooler than in the city but heatstroke can hit you quickly, especially in areas where help may not be easily available. Enjoy yourself but remember to stay safe!
