Summer Holiday 2021 Part Two - The North Devon Coastline

The weather was glorious, and we stopped for a break in the journey in Watchet. It's a quiet but cute little place, and not much seemed to be going on, which we put down to the effects of Covid. There is a heritage railway that passes through, the West Somerset Railway, but we didnt get to see any of the trains passing through. We grabbed ourselves an ice cream each, and had a wander along the coastline for a bit.

James having a rest on the beach
There was this big concrete monolith on the beach, we assumed it was part of a possible WW2 defence post. It was a bit battered, but it's lovely straight lines contrasted with the boulders on the beach and the soft curves of the waves. You can see what a beautiful day it was!

We then carried on our journey up the coast, stopping briefly in Ilfracombe to grab some lunch, use the toilet and stretch our legs. We sat and ate a cone of chips on the promenade admiring the rock formations,  while a seagull admiring our chips slowly advanced towards us. Also, I feel like we need to make it a law that chip shops carry BBQ sauce, this one had only ketchup or mayo, which was quite dissapointing. I'm not asking for anything fancy, but either BBQ or at least garlic mayo should be there!
And we finally made it to Weston-Super-Mare. It had felt like a long drive, and I was glad to be out of the car for a bit. We had a fantastic time on the pier, playing the amusements, and for the first time in a long time, I finally beat James at air hockey! Hurrah!

I know people from the west country are weird, but why on earth would you add curry sauce or gravy to your dog's ice cream? Bizarre!
And here we go, the wonderful view over Weston-Super-Mare beach that evening. We sat eating our dinner on the sand, just listening to the birds flying about & the waves in the distance. Can there be anything better than that? Sometimes the simple things, really are the best.
