Kuressaare
Kuressaare, the largest town on Saaremaa is probably the best place to base yourself. Theres only one hostel, Telegraf Hostel, which is run by Adam, who is very welcoming and incredibly helpful. He found me bus times and gave me lots of advice and directions on how to explore the island. The hostel, while just one room at the moment, is comfortable, clean and in a great location.
The main sight in Kuessaare is the castle. A large and looming castle, clearly remodelled and renovated in fairly recent years, is a warren of interesting and informative displays, from medieval life and weaponry, to the secret police when Estonia was part of the USSR, to explaining how Estonia gained it's independence. Things can be a bit long winded and confusing at times, but it will give you a real insight into Estonia's recent history.
A really amazing piece of graffiti I spotted while exploring the town.

Aside from the castle, Kuressaare has no other must see attractions. It's definitely a summer city, when the days are long and warm and full of ice cream. Here's a couple of pictures from the rest of the town:

Because in Estonia, breakfast's apparently come with boiled potatoes. There's a short ferry crossing from the mainland to Saaremaa, but there's a nice little café to get a hot meal and to warm up :)
Kuressaare is a great base to explore Saaremaa, from there, visiting Kaali, (A ginormous meteorite crater, one of the largest in Europe) and Angla, known for it's beautiful wooden windmills, are easy day trips to do.
