Porvoo
Porvoo is a little Finnish town east of Helsinki. Its not go much, but it is a pretty little town to wander through and explore. It's easy to get to by bus, although you should try to book in advance, which makes it much cheaper, otherwise you'll end up forking out a lot (about 18 euros) for the coach.
That's another thing. Europeans don't seem to distinguish between a coach and a bus, which can make things very confusing! Pretty much everything is called a bus in Europe, regardless of whether it does local of long haul trips. Just take care to double check that the bus you need goes from the right bus station, as some cities have several dotted round the city, and you don't want to be left behind!
Anyway, back to Porvoo. Most things were closed while we were there, but heres just a few photos of the town.
Nothing like tea and cake to warm you up after a cold afternoon of exploring!
In the city museum, you had to put the little plastic covers on your shoes. However, due to my large feet, I had to take my shoes off and walk around bare foot in the foot covers, which also made me sound like I was opening a bag of crisps at every step!
This is the nation emblem of Finland, the lion. I'll be honest, I didn't see any lions with swords walking around in Finland, maybe they were just hibernating for the winter?
