Tallinn Part 2

A real charming place to visit (and a great way to work off the medieval dinner from the night before) is to visit the Pirita convent of St Bridget. The way to do it, if you don't mind a good walk, is to walk out of the town centre, an head along the coastal beach path. It gives some great views of both old and new Tallinn, as well as giving you a strong dose of fresh Baltic sea air. Halfway, is the huge National art gallery. A tall, rather odd looking futuristic building, but I guarantee, its one of the better art galleries I've visited. The choice and sheer variety of works there is staggering. Once you've been there, continue back across the park, and follow the main road to the ruined convent. It's just a couple of euro's to enter, and you can let your imagination run wild with you.

Just wondering through the ruins, let your mind wander, as you join in the daily activities of the nuns, as they spent their in time in devotion and in service of their lord. It's surprisingly intake, and you can see the building really is just a shadow of it's former self. It even inspired me to do some writing too, although how far I will take it, I'm not too sure.

The national art gallery. I cant get it to move up a picture!?

Some more fun and interesting things to do are the city museum, the healthcare museum and to explore the walls that surround the old city. The city museum is a rickety, uneven medieval building, filled with little treasures and history form the city.

Also worth a visit is the healthcare museum. A deeply engaging and topical museum, teaching as much biology and healthcare as you could ever want. There's bits under reconstruction, but well worth visiting. You'll be surprised how little you know about your own body.

The walls are also interesting, although expensive. Each piece of wall is attached to a turret, which requires payment to enter. Even though some only cost a few euro's, it soon adds up and becomes quite expensive, so it's worth doing a bit of research into which one you really want to see. I did most of them, and to be honest, there's not one that particularly jumps out as a must see. If you really cant choose, then Kik in de Kok tower is probably the best.

Next up, a trip to Saaremaa, both Estonia's and the Baltics largest island.
